Ca y est, c'est un nouveau départ pour MG en Angleterre : le retour en concession de la TF : http://news.autoplus.fr/NAC-MG-nomme-ses-premiers-concessionnaires.html
La suite ? une commercialisation pour le changement de millésime, en septembre.

Chacun aura un espace de démonstration attitré, adhérant à la nouvelle identité de MG ainsi que le personnel de vente adéquat et un technicien.

Je crois qu'il faut l'interpréter comme le slogan l'indique("A new journey" = une nouvelle aventure), MG doit se reconstruire une nouvelle image de marque, finie l'ère des "looser" et la gestion désatreuse des anciens propriétaires du "MG ROVER GROUP". Espérons que cela ne reste pas un "voeu pieux". Leur intention est de faire de MG une marque à forte identité britannique mais avec en plus une fiabilité sans reproche.

J'ai également reçu aujourd'hui un mail de NAC MG UK qui indique qu'ils sont enfin prêts pour le relancement de la marque MG : les premières nouvelles MG TF sont annoncées pour l'automne, mais sans doute uniquement chez les concessionnaires au Royaume-Uni :wink:

Si la marque redor son blason les prix vont vite grimpé !! Les ZR et autres MG vont redevenir des voitures moins accessibles (ce qui est normal) !! Vite il faut que je m'en achete une !! :wink:

Il ne faut pas rêver les cotations ont toujours été plutôt basses, hormis pour les roadsters, et ce quand MG Rover existait encore.

oui c'est l'effet faillite et fin de garantie de 3 ans (c'est quand même Rover qui avait lancé ça en Europe avant d'être copié comme pour la streetwise et la cityrover ...), on peut truve des 75 V6 à de bons prix

Il parle du pare-chaleur en "moquette" qui se trouve sous le capot (^^) Un truc totalement inutile sur cette voiture, quand on veut perdre du poids :bah:

:x biensur la protection ne sert pas sauf à protéger la carrosserie et à donner un esprit de solidité, la finition est primordiale, on n epeut plus avoir des MG avec de la moquette qui baille ou des plastiques fragiles type plastoc!

j'suis d'accord. Par exemple y a deux mois, ma concession a fait une reprise sur une ZR 115 TD mk1 3P de 2004, couleur bleu, et bien elle a été vendue en a peine 3 semaines à 9900 Euros soit presque 1000 au dessus de la cote !! :-P et d'apres le vendeur, ils étaient 3 dessus, le premier qui a degainé le chequier et repartit avec :lol:
Et sinon, j'espere que les chinois vont pas etre trop dure au niveau des conditions du contrat de vente pour les concession, car beaucoup d'ancienne concession MG/Rover ont su rebondir sur d'autre marque et j'en ai discuté avec le patron du garage ou je vais, lui il aimerait bien refaire MG, mais ca lui ferait 3 marques, du coup, il espere que les chinois demanderons pas une implantation de voiture demesurée ou une caution astronomique.... :roll2:

j'en doute puisqu'ils doivent relancer, limite lancer un produit. ça sera peut être un contrat progressif par contre en fonction de la production et des ventes annuelles. ce qui parait normal :)

Tout ne semble pas encore prêt pour lancer la production de la série limitée (LE 500), des personnels sont actuellement encore recrutés et formés, mais la date avancée avant cet été était celle de l'automne 2007...il faut patienter...mais le plus étrange est ce qui va se passer en 2008 puisqu'on attend la remplaçante de la 75/ ZT ( a priori même plateforme mais on ne voit pas comment ils pourraient relancer un modèle identique à celui de 2003/2005 sachant que STADCO et ARUP travaillent depuis plus d'1 an et 1/2 pour NAC MG) ; en tous cas, 2008 sera déjà l'année où on pourra se faire une idée sur le succès ou l'échec du relancement de la marque MG en Europe. Pour ce qui se passe en Chine les ventes devraient être un succès, la MG 7 qui se vend mieux que la FORD MONDEO semble rencontrer un succès prometteur et son prix attractif avec le réseau et l'usine chinoise devraient constituer un sérieux atout. :wink:

C'est vrai qu'en tant que fan, on est impatient de re voir des MG chez nous. La re lancement de la marque en Chine est déja un grand pas, on y croyait pas en 2005

Officiellement aujourd'hui le 1/10/2007, sur son site web, NAC MG annonce qu'il est prévu de produire des modèles MG 7 à Longbridge (UK), mais le prix et les caractéristiques de ces modèles n'ont pas encore été fixés. 8)

Je pense que cela sera surtout la MG3 (et tous ces dérivés : Se, Crossover, sport ZR ...) qui (re) lancera vraiment MG en Chine. les petits modèles se vendent bien et les jeunes chinois sont friands de modèles branchés. Nanjing a une belle carte a jouer

Le réseau de distributeurs MG est en train de croître rapidement au Royaume-Uni, annonce NAC MG, de nouvelles franchises ont été signées : plus de 40 accords signés et au total plus 100 distributeurs ont exprimé leur intérêt pour la marque MG. NAC MG (UK) Ltd. has continued to see a high level of demand by retailers wishing to join its new network. Over the past few months, MG has invited applications from businesses keen to become franchised retailers, and the huge response signals a very encouraging future for the eagerly-awaited new MG TF LE 500 sportscar.
Over 100 dealers throughout the UK have expressed interest to become a franchise dealer, with more than 40 having signed letters of intent. The proposed network will provide customers with nationwide coverage from Penzance in Cornwall to Stirling in Scotland. Many of the dealers already boast extensive knowledge of the brand, gained over many years as part of the former MG Rover network, whilst applications have also been received from dealers currently retailing a broad portfolio of brands.
“We are hugely encouraged by the response,” says Stephen Cox, Franchising Manager at NAC MG (UK) Ltd. “There is still a huge interest in the MG brand, and the fact that dealers believe our products will sit well alongside other premium brands speaks volumes.”
New locations are constantly being sought and evaluated, and it is planned that the network will be 50-strong for the commercial launch of the TF LE 500 model in the New Year.
“We have experienced a constant request for applications to join our network,” continues Cox. “There is clear confidence in MG’s future, and dealers seem to want to be a part of a new success story and maintain an association with one of the UK’s most historic car brands.”

Article très confus : la MG TF a maintenant 13 ans d'âge (elle est en fait sortie en 2002 ! ), elle est confondue purement et simplement avec la MG F, quand on connaît les modifications importantes qui ont été apportées par rapport à la F ...d'autant que la MG TF (2008) est censée être une version améliorée par rapport aux millésimes précédents, grâce au travail de LOTUS. :ptdr:

Sur le site web anglais de MG, ils annoncent que la MG TF subit en Chine des tests dans des conditions de températures (+ 30 à + 47 °C) et d'altitudes élevées.

MG Vehicle testing
A brief look at TF product testing
LOCATION; Tulufan (Turpan) North East China.
Altitude; 150m to +2000m Temperatures +30oC to +47oC. Similar conditions to Death Valley USA. Hot and dry.
Vehicle testing is an integral part of the process of successful vehicle design, manufacture and ultimately consumer product enjoyment. It is multi faceted process as well as divided by engineering department and product development stage.
Vehicle engineering departments are traditionally divided into chassis development and calibration. These two departments, with the assistance of specialist technology, test individual components and then later, subject to certification, interdependent components as part of the prototype product. From initial design stages, a vehicle will take on average thirty-sex months to reach the marketplace. Since the MG TF has been away from market for nearly three years significant localization, re-engineering and further development has taken place to ensure certification for emissions conformity, crash testing and insurance grouping. To accompany this editorial are photographs of the TF undertaking one of the most comprehensive and harsh testing calendars required of a vehicle. It has been subjected to hot climates where the ambient temperature is in excess of +40oC, cold climate of temperatures below 30oC before wind chill and altitude tests in excess of 4,500m. Current the MG is specified for 2,500m.
Predominantly testing is required to ensure consumer safety, comfort and overall reliability. To begin with we will bring you images of recent hot and altitude testing in China which will be followed by pictures of cold testing in Finland scheduled for next month.
Our testing began in Tulufan, North East China, where the ambient temperature is in excess of +40oC. Testing is in a variety of locations and under different conditions driving and static conditions. We begin by undertaking a number of engine starts as the heat builds throughout the day the vehicle is left in the full sun and required to provide a strong start both from 'cold' and after lengthy use. We are checking for material melt, sticking and warping, under general use conditions. Specifically in this climate does the air conditioning cool the car efficiently, and how long does it take to sufficiently cool the interior cabin.
Engineering will examine the engine cooling system and fuel handling. Does the vehicle create a fuel vapour which escapes and is visible to the eye and is the product as fuel efficient in this climate? How is the coolant temperature functioning at over 100pC and does the car provide a strong restart when the operating temperature is subject to such excessive outside temperatures? The engineers examine component protection, catalyst temperatures and overall condition of the engine after several testing sessions.
The vehicle is subject to intensive mileage to assess overall drivability and during that time engineers look at overheat protection when the air going into the engine is hotter due to ambient temperatures, how does the affect performance of the engine, is the fan cooling efficiently and what is the result when the coolant exceeds +100oC fans come on to help cool

Explications détaillées données par Gao YUNHANG (NAC MG) sur le retard concernant le lancement de la MG TF
En résumé :
1. La date du 23 octobre n'était pas le moment opportun pour le lancement de la MG TF sur le marché chinois : l'épreuve de Formule 1 se déroulait à la même période à Shanghai et mobilisait les médias sur place,de même que le Salon Automobile de Tokyo. Mais la MG TF est maintenant prête pour le marché chinois.
2. Pour le lancement au Royaume-Uni, le problème rencontré a été lié à la logistique par rapport aux parebrises qui sont arrivés endommagés. De nouveaux fournisseurs européens ont été trouvés.
3. Pour le marché européen, la MG TF produite à Longbridge est prête pour la poduction et la vente mais certaines certifications européennes liées à la sécurité et à l'environnement restent à obtenir : le standard d'émission EURO IV, la certification VCA

Detailed explanation for the TF delayed launch
Currently, there are reports of the problems encountered with the parts that delayed the TF production at Longbridge from autumn this year to the spring next year; and some parts were broken during transportation because of the packaging and NAC switched from Chinese suppliers to European suppliers for some car parts because of this.
Assistant general manager of NAC MG, Gao Yunhang, accepted an interview and explained the situation, "Such saying is somewhat misleading, the British TF launch does not have a definite date so one cannot say it is 'delayed' and moreover, that is not the main factor that affected the TF launch in China."
"There are many causes to the deferred TF launch, and timing is a main reason for that. The Shanghai F1 racetrack is tightly booked in the latter half of October, this made our preparation work for the launch more difficult. Secondly, at the original launch date of October 23rd, most of the media would be heading off to Japan for the Tokyo Motor Show and that would inevitably reduce the attention on the TF launch. Thirdly we also have to consider the problem of launching the car at the same time with Europe."
"However, the problem with windscreen window packaging really existed. We would need some changes to this and require the supplier to thicken the packaging material to take on the 10,000 odd miles journey by sea.
He went on to say that TF has passed the conditions to be launch in China, it is rather a matter of timing, but there are more conditions to be met for the TF to be launched in the UK. There is the VCA quality management certification,
Euro IV emission standard, crash safety and ELV European environment directive. At the moment the MG TF passes those requirements for mass manufacture and selling but it still has to face any future stricter requirement on environment, quality and safety issues from Europe.

Des nouvelles : le lancement de la MG TF "Limited Edition 500" est pour février 2008 au Royaume-uni ensuite dans les 3 mois qui suivront la MG TF sera disponible : ils prévoient d'en vendre plus de 3600 unités pour l'année 2008. Le prix indiqué est de moins de £15 000 soit un prix équivalent à celui de 2005.
Actuellement, 50 distributeurs ont signé la franchise, NAC MG prévoit un réseau de 100 distributeurs MG (UK) à moyen terme.

NAC establishes 50-strong network ahead of first model launch
NAC MG UK, the Chinese-owned carmaker, has signed up 50 dealerships to its network ahead of the launch of the MG TF in February 2008. ARD Howden in west Yorkshire and Dundee-based Autoecosse were issued letters of intent by the brand last week to notch up the half century.
MG's coverage now stretches from Scotland to Cornwall, where it will be represented by RC Harding in Penzance, and from Howards in Llanelli in west Wales to the east of England where Holden Group will sell the brand in Norwich.

It has also secured representation in Belfast, Guernsey and the Isle of Man through
Howard Abraham, Carrus and Mylchreests respectively.
A spokeswoman for NAC MG said: “We would anticipate having 50 to 60 dealers at launch and as a fully functioning dealer network about 100.”
She claimed the group had already received “in excess” of 100 enquiries from dealers interested in taking on the franchise.
NAC MG acknowledged that the majority of MG dealers would be dual or multi-franchised. The spokeswoman said the amount of investment by dealers in showroom standards would depend upon the size of each business but that the carmaker will offer some financial assistance.
“We are producing a corporate identity package that is adaptable and requires a realistic financial investment of which MG will contribute 50 per cent up to the value of £5,000,” she said.
TF LE 500
In February the network will take delivery of 500 units of the TF LE 500 model and this will be followed within three months by shipments of the TF 135 base model.
The spokeswoman predicted sales in 2008 of up to 3,600 units.
Bristol-based Clist & Rattle, which was long established as an MG Rover dealer before the company's collapse in 2005, has taken on the NAC MG franchise.
Jonathan Hart, sales director, said: “We hope to sell about 50 (units) a year. We sold plenty of TFs before.”
Hart said the brand still enjoyed a following through the MG Owners' Club and added that the TF LE 500 was well specified and “should be competitive in the market.”
He expected the TF 135 to be priced below the pre-NAC MG TF, which was priced from about £15,500. The group also represents Skoda, Renault, Perodua and Proton.

Both SAIC and Yuejin Motor, the parent company of Nanjing Automobile Corporation (NAC) have confirmed the integrated cooperation between each other after five months’ delicate planning.
On 26th December 2007 Mr. Hu Maoyuan, Chairman of SAIC and Mr. Wang Haoliang, Chairman of Yuejin signed a cooperation agreement at the People’s Congress Hall in Beijing. Also present were Mr. Zeng peiyan, China’s Vice Prime Minister, leaders from the National Development & Reform Commission, Shanghai municipal government, Jiangsu province and Nanjing municipal government as well as the top management teams of SAIC and NAC and principals from China’s leading automakers.
According to the cooperation agreement, automotive businesses of NAC will be fully integrated into SAIC. Within the business units of NAC, complete vehicle and first-tied parts business will be integrated into SAIC Motor, a public listed company largely held by SAIC, and other business, related to components, service and trading will be within a newly established joint venture, Donghua Company.
After the merger of the two companies, business planning, R&D, sales and marketing, manufacturing and supply chain management will be fully integrated, contributing towards synergy and better performance throughout home and overseas markets. The long term objective of the cooperation is to build SAIC into China's largest automaker with global competitiveness while NAC into a leading manufacturing base in China.
The comprehensive co-operation sets up a benchmark for the optimization and restructuring of Chinese automotive industry. It will improve industrial concentration and benefit the utilization of industrial resources. It will also accelerate the development of independent R&D and innovation capability as well as international competitiveness of Chinese auto industry.
The cooperation is fully supported by China's central government and the respective local governments of Shanghai, Jiangsu province and City of Nanjing.
The cooperation will strengthen the functions of R&D, sales and marketing and manufacturing at Longbridge. The UK business is vital for SAIC to enhance its multinational operations competence.
Following the integration there will be a further input of resources into Longbridge. With the TF being the first product launched, it will be followed by other new MG products.

MG dealers still await cars and contracts

MG will not say whether it expects to supply its appointed UK dealers with their first new cars this year. The brand’s relaunch under new owner Nanjing Automobile Corporation (NAC) has been beset by delays. It had appointed 50 dealers in the UK last summer ready for a scheduled launch of the MG TF in September 2007.
Quality issues with the Chinese-made components led that target to slip to February 2008. But after that date passed, Longbridge assembly plant executives would not say whether they expect to have cars available at all this year. And it has emerged that none of the 50 dealers have franchise contracts in place, although a few have begun marketing and taking deposits; MG has only issued each with a memorandum of understanding.
Stephen Cox, NAC-MG UK sales and franchising manager, insisted there was no negativity in the network. He said: “There’s complete support. They don’t want a car that’s not right, and wouldn’t sell a car that’s not right. If that means delaying it, that’s what we will do.”
Considering the lack of production activity at Longbridge, industry observers have questioned what is actually going on behind the front gate and whether NAC has been feeding the public with false promises of significant production. In 2006 the company said the plant would have annual capacity for 15,000 units. It also talked of introducing an MG 7 saloon based on the Rover 75, still an ambition of NAC parent Shanghai Automotive.
Cox said work completed so far included logistical planning, parts accumulation and engineering. Around 45 “engineering vehicles” have been assembled since May 2007, when NAC held a much-hyped re-opening of Longbridge. The site now employs 140 people in sales and marketing, security, engineering, production and logistics.
When asked what the staff were doing, Cox said: “Training and looking at methods of production and process.” Cox added that he did not believe the car’s aged design would mar the relaunch. It’s essentially the MGF from 1995 and may need a low price to compete against the more modern Mazda MX-5, which starts at £15,730.
Cox refutes this suggestion, adding that the price is still under debate. “The market for two-seater sports cars is driven by people with high disposable income. They don’t need a two-seater, they want one,” he said. Cox plans to re-start dealer recruitment when MG is finally relaunched. He wants a full network of 120 owner-driver dealers.

Stephan Cox (responsable des ventes MG UK) a affirmé que la production allait être très limitée l'année prochaine (2009), environ 2000 MG TF, ensuite ils espèrent produire au moins 50 000 voitures en lançant un modèle nouveau type berline, cela pour 2010 (milieu de l'année).Plusieurs modèles sont bien en préparation à Longbridge. The deal will see XPart, a subsidiary of Caterpillar Logistics Services, manage the supply and distribution of genuine replacement parts for the new MG TF cars to NAC MG’s network of 55 new UK dealers.
“Supporting owners of new MGs with a high-quality aftersales parts programme is another major milestone in the re-introduction of the MG brand across Europe,” comments Jack Safiruddin, Aftersales Manager, NAC MG. “It is essential that we have a reliable and robust parts distribution programme in place to support owners of our new car. In the unfortunate event of an accident or a component failure, owners and garages will have fast access to replacement parts. C'est vrai qu'on est assez paumé sur la stratégie de Nac et Saic. Il y a un an, Roewe devait etre la marque fer de lance du groupe dans le monde et depuis la fusion des 2, on ne sait plus si Roewe va débarquer en Europe.
Rebadger la 550, bof, il faudrait sacrement modifier l'avant et l'arrière, bien trop japonais.
Que le groupe se concentre sur le retour de MG en Europe et vite svp :)

Good Evening
Now this is just about my first proper post, so apologies if this is covered else where, I've looked but cannot find anything anywhere.
Today I spoke to the 'franchise manager' from MG, at the MPH show at Earl's Court and he told me a few interesting things,
After the LE500 TFs are gone, which 300 have already, the normal spec TF will come out with 1.8i only at around £14,000, it will be MG's sole model for 14 months.
After the 14 months ceases, a model will come out similar to that of a ford mondeo, now he wasn't sure if it was going to come out with uprated K series engines, N series, or they were going to come out with the new engines, but he was sure that in the end none will have the original engines, all brand new.
This model will sit with the TF and then following that in the summer of 2010 will be a car about the size a punto, again completely new, and he and another chap said that both these cars are going to be brand new, ground up. After those cars are out, in 2011 the TF is to cease production and a brand new sports car will emerge, which he's seen the painted clay model and after asking what that looks like, he pointed at an orange lambo and said it 'had angles everywhere' and he seemed very happy about it.
He is also having problems getting big dealers back online, and a lot are waiting for concrete information about future models, but when this comes and the full line up is announced they will start selling MGs again.
So the quick version,

January 2011 - New TF
with all new engines. And ALL built at Longbridge.

In 1997 Andrew set up the Perkins dealership in Dunmow, as a used Ford site, which is still in operation today. In 2005 Andrew moved to Perkins of Rayne to run the site, where he has worked ever since.
Perkins has a large MG customer base, as they were previously an MG Rover dealer. Many of the customers are MG enthusiasts and are very loyal to the brand. Perkins has a reputation for being friendly and putting the customer first. Andrew Paine, Dealer Principal, has been involved with various local charity events in the past and does a lot of work for the East Anglia Children’s Hospital and the Air Ambulance.
Dave Martin who is the MG Personal Technician has worked at Perkins for just over 5 years, where he started as an MG Rover apprentice. Dave has completed the official MG technician training at Longbridge and is very familiar with the MG brand.
Phil Bunyard is the MG Brand Manager at Perkins of Rayne and has been in the motortrade for 33 years, he has been working at Perkins for 12 years, and 5 of those years were spent selling MG’s. Phil said ‘It is a family run company with a personal approach to its customers and we all work together as a team.’
The Perkins team have been very creative by designing 2 hard tops, one is in the form of the union jack flag and has been placed onto one of the crystal white LE500’s. The other is designed as a chequered flag, which is on one of the vibrant orange LE500’s. Both look extremely effective and they have received a lot of attention. Please see pictures on the right.

Well there goes the year!
Wow! they say time flies when your enjoying yourself. It doesn’t seem that long since we are all wishing each other a Happy New Year at the start of 2008.
2008 was a big year for MG, the year we launched the LE500. “Easy” is never seen in any job description in the Motor Industry, everyone knows that launching any car into the market place is always a daunting task, but things “worth doing” usually do require great effort and hard work.
As part of the Quality Team it is my responsibility to cover every inch of the car and search for anything that just isn’t right, anything that our Customers are not going to be absolutely 100% happy with needs to be improved before we will give a launch our blessing.
It’s now that I remember the middle of the year and recall how fantastic the production team is at MG Longbridge. I’ve worked in the Motor Industry for more years than I care to admit and I can honestly say I have never met such a driven, focused and committed group of people. We have all “pinned our colours” to MG and every last one of the production team, those people that paint and assemble the car, have been genuinely just the best people in the world to work with. Every individual takes to heart how their input into the vehicle will be seen by the customer.
If you are reading this and you are one of the few I have not already thanked personally, thank you.
Each year MG holds a bonfire night celebration, this year the fireworks doubled as a celebration of the launch of our TF LE500, a great night.
A final highlight of the year was bringing my family on to site to see the finished product, my daughters described the Vibrant Orange as “Well Cool!”
What a year ! Well here’s to 2009.

To prove the point he is offering the MGTF LE500 ‘P’ edition. The ‘P’ is for Picnic and MG Motor UK are encouraging hardy sorts to pull on a warm hat, pull down the soft top and take to the road to make the most of those sunny, if slightly chilly, winter days.
Mr Hagen said; “After a pretty dismal summer we have been delighted with the number of clear and bright days we have had in December and the beginning of January. This gave us the idea to have a little fun with the LE500 and encourage people to make the most of bright and sunny winter days.”
The ‘P’ for Picnic edition of the LE500 comes with the very high specification that makes the TF LE500 such a great car for winter driving, including hard top, air conditioning and a great stereo system as standard.

The beginning of 2009 sees the MG franchise welcoming their first overseas importer on board – Ireland’s K & C Garages Ltd.
K & C Garages was founded in 1987 following a merger of Corrigan’s Garage and Jerry King Motors. They then moved to the present location in 1997. A whole new redevelopment of the business was then embarked upon in 2007 including the Churchdown site where the new key aim was to improve customer service. Managing Director, Gus Corrigan said, ‘The vision for K & C Garages is to be a successful, profitable and respected business, supplying outstanding cars that people want to buy. This passion, matched with realism and determination will form a strong platform for future development and one that our customers will continue to benefit from.’

Motor UK Limited and the SAIC Motor UK Technical Centre (SMTC UK) are
now sharing the Longbridge site as the engineering and R&D company
has completed a move from its Leamington offices into new premises, on
the site of the MG factory on Lowhill Lane. The move was an
obvious, sensible and inevitable rationalisation of SAIC group
companies within the UK, according to SMTC UK’s Director of Business
Development, Ian Horton, who said, “We are delighted to have moved to
Longbridge to be closer to the product and to the HQ functions of MG
UK. We were already working closely with MG and the new geographical
proximity of the companies can only be of benefit to the group and the
MG brand. We now have a Technical Centre platform from which to grow
the future of the Group’s engineering in the UK.” SMTC UK works
on a wide range of engineering and research and development projects
for the SAIC Motor group, including new models destined for the
Longbridge line. Much of the work is commercially confidential but one
of SMTC UK’s first projects for MG is likely to be a remodelling of the
existing TF, following the successful launch of the MGTF LE500 earlier
in 2008, into a limited edition derivative to mark MG’s 85th
anniversary in 2009.Over 250 people have made the 25 mile move
from Leamington to Longbridge following planning that had been progress
since last year. The move has benefited both MG UK and SMTC UK, with
over £1m spent on an IT upgrade for the whole Longbridge site and
larger technical centre offices and workshops for SMTC UK engineers. Leader
of Birmingham City Council, Mike Whitby, said: “Today’s announcement is
encouraging news for the city, particularly in the current economic
climate, and I am delighted to see jobs being brought into Longbridge. “Over
the last three and half years Birmingham City Council and MG have
worked together diligently to build relationships and secure the
positive outcomes. We will continue to give our support to make
Longbridge once again become renowned as a by-word for excellence, and
a real centre of high-class manufacturing.”

On Saturday April 25, Windsor town centre was brought to a standstill as hundreds of MGs descended on Windsor Great Park to take part in the Royal Windsor MG Heritage Festival and to celebrate 85 years of the MG marque.
MG Motor UK was the main sponsor of the Festival and unveiled the latest two derivatives of the MG TF - the TF 135 and the limited edition 85th Anniversary model. Future details on the new models will be announced shortly.
The 85th anniversary car led a 220 strong cavalcade, representing almost all of the models produced by MG since 1924, through the Quadrangle in Windsor Castle, past Prince Phillip and into Frogmore in the Great Park. The procession also included the 1.5 millionth MG to be produced, a unique TF made to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002. The watching crowd and participants alike enjoyed the spectacle of this memorable part of the day.
The Duke of Edinburgh, who owned an MG TC in 1946, hosted the parade, and the proceeds went towards the Prince Philip Trust Fund for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, now in its 25th year. Other activities including multi-start scenic road runs which enabled other MG owners to be involved in this fantastic event. The Prince Philip Fund helps the welfare of under privileged people and assists in training young people and encourages them to undertake voluntary work.
As part of our participation in the event, MG Motor UK also donated a brand new MG TF LE500 to the Prince Phillip Trust Fund for auction to help raise further funds.
Prince Phillip and Mr He Xiaoqing, MG Motor UK Ltd President took part in a tree planting ceremony in the castle grounds to provide a permanent reminder of the event. In due course, a commemorative plaque will also be placed in the area.
Mr He Xiaoqing said "To be major sponsors of the Royal Windsor MG Heritage Festival, such a prestigious event, in MG’s 85th year was extremely exciting and a very proud moment for us. It has been an honour to be involved in such a wonderful event as only the third automotive marque to receive this accolade, which has raised money for The Prince Philip Trust Fund. It has also been the perfect celebration of MG enthusiasts’ commitment and ongoing enthusiasm for the brand. We are extremely grateful to the Rotary Club of Windsor & Eton and the MG Owners Club for organising the event and inviting us to take part.’’

Mini Celebrates 50th Birthday at Cofton Park, Longbridge

The International Mini meeting and Mini’s 50th birthday was held at Cofton Park in Longbridge, the home of Mini on Friday 7th until Sunday 9th August 2009. The International Mini meeting occurs every five years and with it being held in conjunction with Mini’s 50th birthday, it seemed very fitting that the event was held at Longbridge, where Minis were manufactured continuously for 41 years.
There were many classic Minis on display at the event, including Minis manufactured in 1959, the Mini 40, the RSP Cooper, the Mini Moke and many more. A very special Mini Heritage Run took place on Saturday 8th August 2009 from the Heritage Motor Centre to the IMM’s Mini 50th celebrations at Cofton Park and on Sunday 9th August a cavalcade of Minis went from Cofton Park along a designated route into Centenary Square, and then Broad Street in the centre of Birmingham. The event attracted visitors from all over the world, including Spain, America, Portugal and Australia. Crowds gathered on Saturday and Sunday at the MG Motor UK Ltd Headquarters, Longbridge to watch Russ Swift do some Mini stunt driving to the Italian job theme tune.
MG Motor UK Ltd had a stand at the event, which displayed the new 85th Anniversary car, which is available in three limited edition colours, new 16’’ alloy wheel design, new interior trim, exclusive 85th graphics and ‘TF85’ branded alloy gear lever, the base model TF 135 available in seven colours with a 1.8 16v N Series engine for £13,511 OTR and the TF LE500, which comes with a free hard top, piano black interior, rear parking sensors, 16’’ alloy wheels and each car is individually numbered for £16,055 OTR.

Production lines at the MG Rover plant in Longbridge have been stopped and up to 20 employees could be made redundant, the BBC has learned.
Production of the MGTF sports car restarted at the factory last year.
It is thought production work will not restart until next March, BBC Midlands Today Transport Correspondent, Peter Plisner, said.
MG Motor UK Ltd, previously Nanjing, said it was making some workers redundant but had not decided how many.
In a statement, the company, which bought MG Rover's assets following its collapse in April 2005, said: "Clearly this is a difficult time for employees and it would be irresponsible to make this a bigger issue than it is".
Peter Plisner said the firm had confirmed 2009 production of the MGTF model at Longbridge had now ended.
Under Chinese ownership, it was hoped that new models would be built at the plant and more jobs created.
But in April MG Motor UK Ltd said it could not make assurances of long-term employment stability for staff due to the current economic climate.
Dans le même temps, la nouvelle MG 6/550 a été mise au point et préparée pour la production à Longbridge, une annonce officielle serait à venir, la patience est donc toujours de rigueur pour ceux (peu nombreux maintenant) qui s'intéressent encore à MG et au site de Longbridge. :D

MG to double dealer network as sales in China soar
BIRMINGHAM-based MG is planning to double its dealer network.
The Longbridge company currently has 38 dealers but wants to add a further 40, with ten to 15 coming on stream within the next few months.
The expansion comes as MG Motor UK’s parent company, SAIC in China has revealed that its sales figure for 2010 is a staggering 3.58 million, up 31.5 per cent on 2009, and set a new record.
Passenger cars sales alone totalled 2,279,000 and increased by almost 42 per cent on the previous year.
Last year, the MG and Roewe brands had outstanding results with sales up 77 per cent to total 160,000.
MG Motor UK will soon be adding to the 2011 sales figures with the launch of the MG6 sports fastback model, the first all-new MG to be launched in Britain in 16 years.
A team of around 300 engineers and designers from Birmingham were responsible for the design and development of the MG6 which is already on sale in China. MG Motor UK’s franchise and dealer development manager, David Martin, said: “It’s great to see so much genuine interest and enthusiasm from people who want to be part of the new MG story.”
Meanwhile, engineers and designers at the MG Birmingham site are celebrating the success of the newly-launched MG3 supermini, which was unveiled at the Guangzhou Motor Show in China. Detailed specifications of the MG3 will be announced at a later date.
MG’s sales and marketing director Guy Jones said: “The incredible reception the MG3 has had in China is a great reflection on all the hard work put in by the designers and engineers in Birmingham.”

MG announced last month that we will be producing a new television commercial to celebrate the return of our much loved brand with the launch of the new MG6.
The story of this commercial, MG’s first in the UK since 2004 is a fascinating one and begins long before the cameras rolled.
The launch of the MG6 is a pivotal point for us, marking as it does a return to the production of all new cars for the UK market and, as it will be the first of many, we took the decision that our focus for 2011 was not simply to launch a car but to reintroduce this classic brand to a nationwide audience.
Central to this process has been the appointment of our new Marketing Agency, DCH, who as far back as 2009, first presented us with their vision of how they would approach the task and were selected as MG’s marketing agency as the executive team universally agreed that they had demonstrated a fantastic grasp of the brand and our values coupled with some very exciting creative concepts. Having won the business from so many impressive contenders, much behind the scenes work has gone on throughout 2010 to bring the vision to life, starting with smaller engagements like the creative backdrops for our show appearances through to the development of the MG Lite Brochure, creating the new CI, the company website and shortly, allowing their creative spirits to run free in the more traditional advertising formats.
DCH used their extensive contacts network to source a partner who they were sure could bring their creative concepts and our brand to life in the television commercial. Nick Scott, Creative Director at DCH and David Shute, the agency’s TV producer, spent hours reviewing show reels and treatment proposals to look at those production companies who were capable of bringing to the screen the look and feel that was required to do justice to the overall vision and the MG6 itself.
After exhaustive research and on DCH’s recommendation, MG were delighted to meet with Ridley Scott Associates, the production company founded by the Hollywood legend and agree to their appointment as producers of the new MG advertisement.
Ridley Scott Associates (RSA) has offices around the world and work extensively within both the entertainment and commercial industries. As one would expect from a company whose philosophies are built upon those of the man who created such visually stunning and diverse films as Bladerunner, Alien and Gladiator, RSA have a proven track record in producing fantastically rich and textured imagery. DCH were also delighted to once again be able to team up with Stuart Rideout who helms the MG6 commercial. Having previously worked with Stuart on a campaign for other clients, Nick Scott knew that he would deliver the strong visual style that we were looking for.
